Facilitator: Dr.Tomi-Ann Roberts, Leslie Scott Zanovitch

NEAMA’s President Leslie Scott Zanovitch and Co-vice president, Dr. Tomi-Ann Roberts, a research psychologist specializing in sexualization and objectification, will be facilitating an interactive workshop on how sexualization and objectification shows up in the movement arts in “seemingly benign” ways. Further, Dr. Tomi-Ann draws upon her expertise in social psychology of emotion, gender, and the body; psychological consequences of the sexual objectification of women and girls. Leslie draws upon her recovery from sexual abuse and self-sexualization and self-objectification. They will touch on the intersection of these topics with more extreme forms of sexual abuse, such human trafficking. They will also discuss how we can create safer spaces in the movement arts to nurture healthy sexuality, body agency, consent, and lasting wellness and empowerment.
