Black Bodies in Motion: Hypersexualization and Dehumanization*

In this Community Education Workshop (CEW), Black Bodies in Motion: Hypersexualization and Dehumanization, Dr. Dionne Stephens will discuss the way in which socio-historical experiences have shaped the field of psychology’s current approaches to examining Black women’s sexual health and the intersectionality of popular culture and the movement arts.

Dr. Stephens is a professor at Florida International University. With an ultimate goal of reducing health disparities, Dr. Stevens’ research specifically examines diverse cultural beliefs’ influence on intimate relationships and sexual health decision making in marginalized populations. Her research is conducted through the Health Disparities and Culture Identities Lab.
