NEAMA (Nonprofit Education and Advocacy for the Movement Arts)

Facilitators: Dr. Tomi-Ann Roberts, Dr. Christina Donaldson, Triche Sylvester, Leslie Scott Zanovitch

This interactive workshop will present evidence based research to help the term “age-appropriate” not be vague when making music, movement, costume, and concept choices for youth. As educators we have a tremendous amount of power over movement artists and their parents and caregivers to present artistic choices that are healthy for developing minds and bodies. Dr. Tomi-Ann Roberts and Leslie Scott Zanovitch with share research regarding the impact of sexualization and objectification as it relates to artistic choices. Dr. Christina Donaldson will share how music and concepts and themes are processed by young, developing brain. Patricia Sylvester will share over 3 decades of experience as an educator and advocate for developmentally healthy artistic choices for the training and performance.
